Carroll "Duke" Osborne has been in the machining industry for nearly 40 years. Specializing in machine tool repair services, machine tool rebuilding of vertical machining centers, vertical lathes, horizontal machining centers, horizontal turning lathes, transfer lines, and machine tool installations.

Class Overview

Section 1 - Safety: Lockout/Tagout

First 1/2 day of class reviewing lockout procedures using customer safety requirements, OSHA standards and any current S.O.P. used in the customer's daily job. 

Section 2 - Basic Three and Five Axis Machine Tool Configurations

  • Three axis vertical machining centers

  • Horizontal machining centers

  • Horizontal turning lathes

  • Vertical turning lathes

  • Live tooling

  • Introduction into five axis machine tools and alignment procedures

Section 3 - Servo Drives

  • Open loop

  • Semi-close loop

  • Close loop

Basic programming to use as test procedures to verify alignments and how to access parameters, change home positions and backlash.

Section 4 - Machine Tool Components & Foundations

  • Ball screws

  • Thrust bearings

  • Carriage ways, guideways and boxways

  • Linear magnetic axis drives

  • Spindle types

  • Cartridge through the motor high speed units

Section 5 - Hands-On Lab

  • Alignment processes using the customer's machine

  • Mechanical spirit levels

  • Test bars

  • Indicators

  • Granite squares

Section 6 - Review



Training Terms, Conditions and Cancellation Policy

  • Training course registrations will not be confirmed until payment is received in full.

  • Seats are available on a first-confirmed basis.

  • Training must be paid no later than 15 days prior to first day of training regardless of existing account terms.

  • In order to cancel or reschedule a confirmed training, please submit an email request to [email protected]

  • Please submit all cancellation requests within 60 calendar days of registration and no later than 30 days prior to the scheduled course date in order to receive a full refund of paid registration fees.

  • No-shows and cancellations not made within the specified cancellation period will incur the full cost of registration.

  • TIE reserves the right to cancel any training course due to insufficient enrollment at least 30 calendar days in advance of the scheduled course date. Notice will be provided with the option to reschedule for a future course date or to receive a full refund of registration fees.

  • TIE is not responsible for any expenses incurred by the customer if a training course is cancelled.
